Booking a Brand Photographer? Here’s What You Need to Know
When it comes to booking a brand photographer, the options are endless. There are so many talented and amazing photographers out there. This can lead to a bit of decision fatigue. I get it, there’s a lot to consider, from price to photographers style to availability. However, there’s a few steps many tend to forget to consider, and I wanted to help you find the right person for you!
If you’re currently looking for a photographer, here are a few things to consider.
Your Brand & Their Style
Finding the right photographer means finding the right style of photography for you! Are you looking for headshots or do you want more of a storytelling/cinematic type shoot?
Here’s a few things to look at when you’re looking at a photographer’s style (Let’s avoid the Sepia Bride mess of 2024)
→ Photo Coloring: One thing to really have an eye on is how each photographer edits their photos. Go through their website, instagram and anywhere else they post their work. Have a look at their editing style and see if it’s a fit for you. Each photographer has a different editing style. Some go more natural, while others give their work a bit time in the editing lab. It’s important to look at the coloring and style of your photographer before you make a decision. We don’t want a repeat of Sepia Bride.
→ Photo Genre: Photography styles can differ so much. From cinematic to storytelling to your basic headshots. If you’re looking for cinematic photos, then a photographer who does headshots may not be the best choice. Cinematic and Storytelling imagery have more to offer in terms of depth and artistry.
→ Does it Match Your Brand: Now ask yourself this, does the photographer's style match the Pinterest mood-board you've spent months curating?
Are they holding space for creative direction discussions?
You’ve gone through all the photographers and you now have a few people you’d like to reach out to. How do you decide who do go with beyond the ✨vibe✨
When you’re on your discovery call, ask about their process, is there space for creative direction? Are they taking the lead or is it more of a collaborative process?
Some clients like having a collaborative process . Others prefer for their photographer to take the lead. Decide what you’d prefer before you jump on a call with your photographer.
Booking a photographer is about more than finding someone with a great portfolio. It’s about finding someone who understands your brand and can tell your story through visuals.
So before you book, take the time to research, ask the right questions, and trust your gut. When you find a photographer whose style aligns with your brand and makes you feel comfortable; you’ll not only get beautiful images; you’ll get a visual identity that feels authentically you.
